Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Physics at
Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. The department offers a
high-quality, contemporary physics program that is taught in attractive and
modern facilities using effective teaching methods and state-of-the-art
equipment. Our program includes:
- A Physics Major intended primarily to prepare students for graduate or professional study and subsequent employment in physics or related fields, or secondarily to prepare students for employment immediately following graduation from Marietta College
- An Applied Physics Major with an "engineering-like" curriculum intended primarily to prepare students for either the 3-2 Engineering Binary Program or employment in entry-level technical positions following graduation
- A Physics Minor, which provides an introduction to physics that is suitable for students with majors in other fields
- First-class algebra-based and calculus-based introductory physics courses with strong lab components that effectively prepare students for further course work in technical fields and career paths for which introductory physics is a prerequisite
- Additional support courses beyond the introductory level, such as digital electronics and environmental physics
- General education courses that introduce students to interesting and important issues in areas such as physics, astronomy, engineering, technology, and related areas
- Rickey Physics Scholarships that are awarded on a competitive basis to students majoring in physics
- An annual Rickey Summer Science Institute for teachers of physics and physical science at the secondary and elementary levels
